Chahta Anumpa – UNIQUE APPLICATION **DUE DATE 05/31/2024*
The goal of the Chahta Anumpa Teacher Education Scholarship is to provide a full scholarship, full benefits listed below, to Choctaw individuals who are interested in completing a Teacher Education program and upon certification/ licensure becoming a Choctaw Language Teacher. The course work for this scholarship must lead to a Bachelor’s Degree in Education within the awarded time. Selected participants must maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 2.5 or above and must maintain full-time student status during the scholarship time. All participants will be required to sign a ‘Participant Agreement’ before services begin. Participants will be selected by the Chahta Anumpa Scholarship Committee.
Criteria to Apply
• Completed 24 credit hours before Fall semester begins
• Must have Choctaw Membership
• Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher
• Must meet SOSU’s Admission Requirements
• Completed Application Packet
Scholarship Recipient Benefits
• Paid tuition (12-16 hours per fall/spring semester and 6 hours in summer), fees, and books
• Living stipend of $1,500 per month
• Tutoring
• Paid testing or exam fees
• Laptop and printer will be provided
• Relocation assistance stipend (if necessary)
**Payback
• After receiving his/her teaching certification/licensure from the State Department of Education, the participant will incur a service obligation to teach in the Choctaw Nation School of Language one year for each year of scholarship support received with a minimum service period of two years.
OR
• Failure to complete the degree or service payback may result in a required cash payback to the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma.
