Scholarship Programme

The Choctaw-Ireland Scholarship is being instituted in recognition of the act of generosity and humanitarianism shown by the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma towards the people of Ireland during the Great Famine of the mid-Nineteenth Century, and to foster and deepen the ties between the two nations today.

Scholarship Value: Full Tuition at University College Cork and €10,000 in living expenses.

Eligibility

  • Be a member of the Choctaw Nation of Oklahoma
  • Interested in a one-year taught Masters degree*
  • Be accepted into University College Cork (UCC) in Ireland
  • Interested in a degree from the College of Arts, Celtic Studies, and Social Sciences at UCC**
  • Have a valid passport

Process

  1. Apply for University College Cork by April 28th.

    Before you can apply for the Choctaw-Ireland Scholarship, you have to be accepted into University College Cork. To apply for UCC:

    • Choose your degree/course from the UCC Courses.
      Use the following filters for eligible programs:

        • Type: Postgraduate
        • College: Arts, Celtic Studies, and Social Sciences
        • Teaching Mode: Full-time
    • Once your degree/course has been selected, begin your application with University College Cork.
    • The application will take approximately 1 hour to complete.
  2. After completing your UCC application

    Please email the following to scholarship@chahtafoundation.com:

    • Your UCC application number
    • A note indicating your interest in applying for the Choctaw-Ireland Scholarship
  3. Wait for your acceptance from University College CorkTypically, acceptance into your degree/course will take about 1 week.
  4. Apply for the Choctaw-Ireland Scholarship Programme by May 12th

    After you have received your acceptance to UCC, submit the following items to scholarship@chahtafoundation.com:

*What is a one-year taught Masters Degree?

A one-year taught Masters Degree is a postgraduate in-person degree taught on the campus of UCC. When reviewing programs, look at the duration listed on the course page to ensure it is a 1 year Full-time program as seen below.

My UCC Application is about to expire, what do I do?

Once you apply for UCC, your admission letter will show that you have a limited time to submit a deposit to accept the offer. You have two options:

  1. I can only attend with the scholarship – If you plan only to attend UCC with the Choctaw-Ireland Scholarship Programme, you can let your application offer expire without the deposit. If you are selected for the scholarship, UCC will reopen your offer to accept.
  2. I plan to attend with or without the scholarship – If you plan to attend irregardless of scholarship status, please submit the deposit to accept your offer. If you are selected for the scholarship, please let UCC representation know, and they can help with the deposit.
