Madeline Anna received her Chahta Foundation scholarship in 2013 and is a future public health officer.

Madeline Anna believes in the concept of “one medicine”: the idea that human and animal health and diseases are interrelated and interdependent. To that end, she holds a Master’s of Public Health degree from The Ohio State University and is pursuing a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from Colorado State University. A native of Colorado Springs, Madeline says she sees herself synthesizing her knowledge and research to “advance minority community health” by keeping food safe or preventing and controlling disease at the tribal, state, or federal government level. Her vision also includes adding a Veterinary Public Health Office to Indian Health Services. One day, she plans to give back to the Choctaw Nation: “It’s important for those who have experienced success to inspire and support the next generation to maintain our tribal legacy,” Madeline says.
